BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) recently introduced the locally manufactured Seal 5 DM-i in Thailand, also known as the Chaser 05 in China. This move marks the fourth model produced by BYD at its Thai factory and the first right-hand drive model to roll off the assembly line at the facility.
The Seal 5 DM-i, a popular model in China with sales of 10,303 units in July alone, offers two variants in Thailand – Premium and Standard. The Premium variant comes with a starting price of 769,900 Thai baht (approximately $23,730), with a limited-time promotional price of 699,900 Thai baht. The price for the Standard variant is yet to be announced and will be determined based on competitor pricing.
Ke Yubin, general manager of BYD Thailand, expressed confidence in Thailand’s manufacturing capabilities as the Seal 5 DM-i enters production at the Rayong plant. The company has already sold over 90,000 vehicles in Thailand, highlighting its commitment to the local market and the creation of over 9,000 local jobs.
BYD’s entry into the Thai market began in 2022 with vehicle imports, followed by the commencement of factory construction on March 10, 2023. Production at the factory started on July 4, 2024, with the first locally manufactured BYD vehicle marking the company’s 8 millionth globally. Last month, the factory celebrated its first anniversary with the mass production of the Seal 5 DM-i.
In July, BYD sold a total of 344,296 NEVs, including 10,303 units of the Chaser 05. Overseas sales reached 80,737 vehicles, reflecting a significant year-on-year increase. The company’s focus on driving Thailand’s NEV industry aligns with its global expansion strategy and commitment to sustainable transportation solutions.
The Seal 5 DM-i launch in Thailand signifies BYD’s continued growth and innovation in the Southeast Asian market. With a strong product lineup and local manufacturing capabilities, BYD is well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of customers in Thailand and beyond.
