BYD, a leading Chinese new energy-vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, has introduced its Seal 5 DM-i hybrid sedan in Poland and Slovakia, marking its second plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) model launched in Europe. Renamed from the Seal 05 DM-i, this new hybrid sedan promises to revolutionize the European sedan market with its comfort, smart features, ultra-low fuel consumption, and extended range performance.

The Seal 5 DM-i follows the success of BYD’s first hybrid model in Europe, the Song Plus DM-i, which was rebranded as the Seal U DM-i and launched in Europe in the second quarter of 2024. Stella Li, BYD’s executive vice president, highlighted the strong sales of the Song Plus DM-i as a testament to European consumers’ acceptance of BYD’s DM hybrid technology.

The Seal 5 DM-i boasts impressive features such as an ultra-long range, a spacious cabin, and ample trunk space. With fuel efficiency as low as 1.7 liters per 100 kilometers, this hybrid sedan offers significant cost savings for owners. In Poland, the Seal 5 DM-i is available in Comfort and Design trims, with starting prices of PLN 129,900 and PLN 139,900, respectively.

Following its debut in Poland and Slovakia, the Seal 5 DM-i is set to be introduced in other European markets including the Czech Republic, Romania, and Croatia. The sedan was initially launched in China on February 10 with a starting price of RMB 79,800.

BYD officially entered the European passenger vehicle market in September 2022 and has quickly become a major player in the NEV segment. The company’s NEV models have now ventured into over 110 countries and regions globally. In April, BYD surpassed Tesla in BEV registrations in Europe, further solidifying its position in the market.

In May, BYD reported a total of 382,476 vehicle sales, marking a 15.27% year-on-year increase and a 0.63% month-on-month growth. The company also achieved record-breaking sales of 89,047 NEVs overseas in May, with a 137.46% year-on-year increase and a 12.60% month-on-month rise.

With BYD’s continued success and innovation in the NEV sector, the Seal 5 DM-i is poised to make a significant impact in the European automotive market. Stay tuned for more updates on BYD’s advancements in sustainable transportation.
