BYD Launches Sealion 6 DM-i Hybrid SUV in Singapore

BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has made its mark in Singapore with the introduction of the Sealion 6 DM-i, the company’s first hybrid model in the country. The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker recently unveiled the Sealion 6 DM-i at an event in Singapore, marking a significant milestone in its expansion efforts.

The Sealion 6 DM-i, known as the Song Plus DM-i in China, comes with a starting price of S$212,888 ($166,140) in Singapore, which includes the Guaranteed COE (Certificate of Entitlement). This model offers a solution that caters to a wider range of driving needs, showcasing BYD’s commitment to providing innovative and eco-friendly transportation options.

In China, the 2025 Song Plus DM-i was launched on July 25 with a starting price of RMB 135,800 ($18,940), reflecting BYD’s competitive pricing strategy in its home market.

Singapore is known for its high vehicle ownership costs, primarily due to the COE system. The COE grants residents the right to own and use vehicles in the city-state, making it one of the most expensive regions in the world for vehicle ownership.

In addition to the Sealion 6 DM-i, BYD offers a range of other models in Singapore, including the Seal, Dolphin, Sealion 7, M6, and Atto 3 (Yuan Plus in China). The D9 MPV from BYD’s sub-brand Denza is also available in the Singapore market.

BYD entered the Singapore passenger vehicle market in July 2022 with the launch of the Atto 3, further expanding its presence in the region. The company’s strong performance in Singapore is evident from the 6,191 vehicles it sold in 2024, making it the top-selling carmaker in the city-state, surpassing competitors like Toyota and Tesla.

Overall, BYD Group continues to see growth in its NEV sales, with 382,585 vehicles sold in June alone. The company’s overseas sales also reached a record high of 90,049 vehicles in June, demonstrating its strong global presence and increasing popularity among consumers.

With its focus on innovation, sustainability, and customer satisfaction, BYD remains a key player in the electric vehicle market, offering cutting-edge technology and environmentally friendly transportation solutions to consumers worldwide.
