BYD Launches the Seal 06 GT at a Lower Price Than Expected

BYD has officially launched its sporty new Seal 06 GT in China, delivering pricing even lower than initially promised. The all-electric hot hatch is based on the original Seal fastback sedan, which has been in production since 2022 and recently received a 2025 model year refresh to compete against the Tesla Model 3.

The Seal 06 GT is a key model in BYD’s expansion into Europe, as the company aims to establish a localized production facility in Hungary. The GT version of the Seal was first showcased as the Ocean-M concept during the Beijing Auto Show last April, described as the industry’s first RWD performance electric hatchback.

BYD officially launched the Seal 06 GT in China today, with an MSRP starting at RMB 136,800 ($19,260). The hot hatch sits on BYD’s latest BEV architecture, the e-Platform 3.0 Evo, which supports four different variants with varying ranges and pricing.

The Seal 06 GT comes in different trims, including the 505, 505 Plus, 605, and 550, each featuring a different powertrain and range. The top trim, the 550, boasts a dual-motor AWD system with 310 kW peak power and 510 Nm torque, capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds and offering a range of 550 km.

The Seal 06 GT measures 4,630 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,490 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm. It is equipped with LFP blade batteries in varying capacities, depending on the trim level, and features a fast-charging capability that allows for a 30-80% charge in just 20-22 minutes on a DC fast charger.

Each trim level also comes with BYD’s DiPilot intelligent ADAS system, enabling Level 2 autonomous driving. While there was no mention of a European launch during the official unveiling in China, it is likely that the Seal 06 GT will make its way to European markets following the success of the original BYD Seal.

Overall, the Seal 06 GT offers a compelling blend of performance, range, and affordability, making it an attractive option in the growing electric vehicle market. With its sleek design, advanced technology, and competitive pricing, the Seal 06 GT is set to make a significant impact in the electric hot hatch segment.
