BYD, the Chinese auto giant, achieved a new sales record in November, surpassing the 500,000 mark for the second time. This marks the sixth consecutive month of record sales for the company, with a total of 506,804 new energy vehicles (NEVs) sold.
This impressive figure represents a 67.87 percent increase from the same period last year and a slight 0.83 percent increase from October. BYD made the strategic decision to cease production and sales of vehicles powered solely by internal combustion engines in March 2022, shifting its focus to plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
In November, BYD’s NEV sales included both passenger cars and commercial vehicles, with passenger NEVs accounting for 504,003 units, a 67.23 percent increase year-on-year. The commercial NEVs saw a significant growth as well, with 2,801 units sold, marking a 433.52 percent increase from the previous year.
The company’s sales of passenger BEVs reached 198,065 units in November, showing a 16.41 percent increase from the same period last year. On the other hand, sales of passenger PHEVs totaled 305,938 units, marking a 133.13 percent increase year-on-year but a slight 1.60 percent decrease from October.
Despite the slight dip in PHEV sales, BYD remains a dominant player in the NEV market, both in China and overseas. The company sold 30,977 vehicles in international markets in November, with 28,141 units exported from China.
In addition to its automotive success, BYD is also a key player in the power battery industry. The company’s installed base of power and energy storage batteries reached about 22.472 GWh in November, showing a 32.62 percent increase year-on-year.
Overall, in the January-November period, BYD’s NEV sales totaled 3,757,336 units, marking a 40.02 percent increase year-on-year. Passenger NEVs accounted for 3,740,930 units, while commercial NEVs totaled 16,406 units.
BYD’s commitment to sustainable transportation is evident in its strong performance in the NEV market. With a wide range of electric vehicles and a growing presence in the international market, BYD continues to be a leader in the transition towards cleaner and greener transportation solutions.
