Vauxhall Teases Rugged 4×4 Concept Version of Electric Frontera
Vauxhall has given a glimpse of a more robust iteration of the upcoming Frontera model with a concept car that transforms the traditional electric crossover into a trail-ready 4×4.
The vehicle, dubbed the Vauxhall Frontera Gravel, is based on the electric variant of the family car and comes equipped with several key features designed to enhance its off-road capabilities.
At the front, the Frontera Gravel boasts a tow winch and additional LED light bars, while the rear of the vehicle now includes extra storage panniers for added convenience.
Furthermore, the concept vehicle is fitted with a sturdy roof rack featuring a spare tire and additional storage space, along with BFGoodrich all-terrain tires for improved traction on rough terrain.
Inside, the interior layout mirrors that of the standard Frontera, but has been revamped with orange accents to complement the car’s exterior color scheme.
According to Opel-Vauxhall CEO Florian Huettl, the Frontera Gravel exemplifies the brand’s dedication to making electric mobility versatile and eco-friendly.
While Vauxhall has not confirmed any plans for mass production of the Frontera Gravel, the modifications made to the vehicle are relatively minor and could potentially serve as the basis for a special edition variant of the crossover.

Interestingly, sibling brand Fiat recently unveiled a 4×4 version of the Grande Panda, which shares its platform with the Frontera. Vauxhall may consider incorporating the electrified rear axle from the Fiat model to provide its Frontera with four-wheel drive capabilities, although the Fiat utilizes a hybrid powertrain compared to the Frontera Gravel’s battery-electric powertrain.
This move would further link the new Frontera to its predecessor from the 1990s, which was a 4×4 model based on Isuzu’s Mysterious Utility Wizard.
