BYD to Roll Out 15,000 Megawatt Fast Chargers Across China in New Partnership Push
In a constant reminder of China’s advancement in electric vehicle technology, leading global plugin car brand BYD has announced plans to deploy 15,000 megawatt charging stations across the nation. This initiative comes as a part of BYD’s commitment to sustainable transportation and reducing carbon emissions.
Initially, BYD had announced a plan to deploy up to 10,000 megawatt chargers during its “Megawatt Charging: 10,000-Charger Co-Construction” ceremony. However, the company has now expanded its plans through new partnerships with major Chinese charge point operators Xiaoju Charging and LongShine. Xiaoju Charging, the infrastructure arm of ride-hailing giant Didi, plans to open 10,000 units, while LongShine aims to install 5,000 new MW-level DC fast chargers across the country.
These partnerships are a significant step towards enhancing the EV charging infrastructure in China, where the adoption of electric vehicles is rapidly increasing. Xiaoju Charging boasts over 8,400 partner merchants serving millions of EV drivers, while LongShine has a widespread presence in over 400 Chinese cities.
BYD’s push to deploy megawatt charging infrastructure aligns with the company’s recent release of the Han L and Tang L EVs. These vehicles are equipped with a new, proprietary 1,000V/1,000A/1,000kW BYD battery system, allowing them to add up to 400 km of electric range in just 5 minutes. This ultra-fast charging capability sets a new standard in the EV industry and enhances the appeal of BYD’s electric vehicles.
The market response to the Han and Tang EVs has been overwhelmingly positive, with BYD reporting sales of 10,483 Han L and 11,406 Tang L models in their first month on the market. These figures exceed 40,000 total deliveries of just these two models, showcasing the growing demand for high-performance electric vehicles in China.
In comparison, Tesla’s total sales in the EU, EFTA, and UK combined amounted to 7,261 units, reflecting a 49% decrease year-over-year. This highlights the competitive edge that BYD has gained in the EV market with its advanced charging infrastructure and cutting-edge electric vehicles.
BYD’s commitment to sustainable transportation and innovation in electric vehicle technology positions the company as a leader in the global shift towards cleaner and greener mobility solutions. The deployment of 15,000 megawatt fast chargers across China marks a significant milestone in the transition to electrified transportation and underscores BYD’s dedication to a sustainable future.
