BYD and TAILG have joined forces to collaborate on developing batteries for electric motorcycles, e-bikes, and scooters. This partnership marks a significant milestone as TAILG becomes the first major two-wheeler manufacturer to team up with BYD. The announcement was made during TAILG’s product launch event, where they highlighted their commitment to enhancing battery technology and ensuring that BYD batteries align with the lifespan of the vehicles they power.
Moreover, the partnership will also prioritize improving battery safety for e-bike users. TAILG, renowned for being one of the largest two-wheeler manufacturers in China, boasts a production capacity of 15 million units and operates in over 90 countries and regions through 30,000 stores. With a primary focus on electric motorcycles, bikes, tricycles, and scooters, TAILG has recently expanded its reach by establishing overseas R&D centers in Vietnam and Indonesia.
On the other hand, BYD, the second-largest battery maker in China after CATL, has been instrumental in driving the adoption of electric vehicles with 15.82 GWh of batteries installed in EVs in October alone, commanding a 26.7% market share. In a bid to address safety concerns surrounding electric scooters, BYD announced plans to produce safe and reliable LFP batteries specifically for the two-wheeler market earlier this year. This initiative reflects the company’s commitment to ensuring battery safety and reliability for consumers.
The decision to focus on battery safety comes in the wake of a tragic incident in Nanking, where 15 individuals lost their lives and 44 were injured in a fire that reportedly started in an area where two-wheelers were parked. This incident sparked conversations around the safety of electric scooters in China, leading to several cities imposing bans on parking two-wheelers inside buildings. Data from the National Fire and Rescue Bureau revealed a concerning trend, with a significant increase in reported electric two-wheeler fires in China over the past few years.
As both BYD and TAILG collaborate to enhance battery technology and safety standards for electric two-wheelers, their partnership signifies a crucial step towards ensuring the reliability and safety of these vehicles. By leveraging their expertise and resources, the two companies aim to address industry challenges and deliver innovative solutions that prioritize consumer safety and satisfaction.
