BYD’s upcoming next-generation blade battery is set to revolutionize the range and longevity of electric vehicles, according to a company executive. Cao Shuang, the managing director of BYD Central Asia in European Auto Sales Division, revealed in an interview with CGTN that the new battery, expected to be introduced in 2025, will significantly enhance the driving distance of BYD vehicles while extending the battery’s life cycle.

The focus on battery life cycle management and collaboration with industry partners to develop battery reuse systems highlights BYD’s commitment to sustainability. Once the batteries have completed their initial vehicle life cycle, they can be repurposed for various applications such as energy storage, showcasing BYD’s dedication to environmental responsibility.

BYD’s first-generation blade battery, introduced in March 2020, has been widely adopted across the company’s NEV lineup, emphasizing safety and performance. However, to stay competitive in the rapidly evolving EV market, BYD is preparing to launch its second-generation blade battery, rumored to have a charging multiplier of over 6 C, in the second half of 2024. This new battery technology is expected to power the Yangwang U7 sedan, a luxury model under BYD’s sub-brand.

Yangwang, targeting the ultra-luxury market with models like the U7 sedan and U8 off-road SUV, aims to offer high-performance vehicles powered by cutting-edge battery technology. The U7 sedan, with over 1,000 horsepower and a price tag around 1 million yuan, is poised to make a significant impact in the luxury EV segment.

BYD’s continuous innovation in battery technology and its commitment to sustainability have solidified its position as a key player in the global EV market. With the upcoming launch of the next-generation blade battery, BYD is poised to further enhance the performance and range of its electric vehicles, setting new standards for the industry.
