BYD Changzhou Sets Sail: Adding Capacity to BYD’s NEV Exports
BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has recently launched its new car carrier, BYD Changzhou, marking an important addition to the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker’s transportation capacity for exports.
The BYD Changzhou, the company’s second ro-ro vessel, has commenced operations after being delivered, announced Wang Junbao, general manager of BYD Corporate Division, on Weibo. Loaded with nearly 5,000 BYD NEVs at the ports of Lianyungang and Taicang in Jiangsu province, the car carrier is now en route to Europe, contributing to efforts to mitigate climate change by 1°C.
Although Wang did not provide further details, he shared three images of the newly launched BYD Changzhou. This vessel is the second ship owned by BYD, following BYD Hefei, and becomes the third in the company’s fleet of car carriers.
In January, BYD announced the completion of loading vehicles on the BYD Explorer No.1, the first car carrier exclusively dedicated to BYD. It is worth noting that this vessel is not owned by BYD but was built by CIMC Raffles for international shipping company Zodiac Maritime.
Furthermore, Guangzhou Shipyard International Co Ltd (GSIC) held an undocking ceremony for BYD Hefei on September 21. This 7,000-vehicle dual-fuel automobile ro-ro vessel is the first ship owned by BYD and named after the city where its production base is located.
Changzhou, the namesake city of the latest vessel, is situated in Jiangsu province, where BYD established a production site that commenced operations in January 2022. Built by CIMC Raffles, the BYD Changzhou left port on November 29 for delivery to BYD. With a length of 199.9 meters and a loading capacity of 7,000 vehicles, it is a valuable addition to BYD’s growing fleet.
In the coming years, BYD plans to have seven additional ro-ro vessels in operation, according to a statement made in January. This move is in line with the company’s strong sales performance, as evidenced by the sale of 506,804 NEVs in November, marking the sixth consecutive month of record highs. Notably, BYD exported 30,977 vehicles to overseas markets in November, contributing to its global presence.
As BYD continues to expand its fleet and enhance its export capabilities, the company remains a key player in the global NEV market. With a commitment to sustainable transportation and innovation, BYD is poised to make a significant impact on the future of electric mobility.
