Geely Auto has officially made its mark in the Vietnamese automotive market with the launch of the Coolray SUV as its debut model. This move is part of the company’s larger expansion strategy into Southeast Asia, aiming to penetrate new markets and diversify its product offerings.
The Coolray SUV has already achieved impressive sales figures, surpassing one million units in sales. Geely is now gearing up to introduce two new models in Vietnam in the second quarter of 2025 – the Monjaro luxury SUV and the EX5 electric SUV. These additions to the lineup will cater to different segments of the market, showcasing Geely’s commitment to offering a diverse range of products to Vietnamese customers.
Evin Ye, Vice President of Geely Automobile International (GAIC), expressed the company’s strategic vision for the Vietnamese market, emphasizing the importance of local manufacturing and supply chain collaboration. Geely aims to not only deliver mobility solutions tailored to the needs of Vietnamese consumers but also contribute to the growth and prosperity of the country’s automotive sector.
In the coming years, Geely plans to introduce a total of nine models in Vietnam, spanning traditional internal combustion engines (ICE), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), and battery electric vehicles (BEV). The lineup will include both five-seat and seven-seat models to cater to a wide range of preferences and requirements in the local market.
To support its expansion efforts, Geely Auto Group has formed a strategic partnership with Vietnam’s Tasco Group to establish an automotive assembly facility in Thai Binh Province. With a $168 million investment, the plant is expected to begin construction this year and commence production by late 2026. The facility will initially have an annual output of 75,000 vehicles and will produce multiple models, starting with Geely and Lynk & Co vehicles.
In addition to its entry into the Vietnamese market, Geely Auto Group recently ventured into Indonesia by offering pre-sales of its electric SUV, the Geely EX5. This model comes equipped with advanced features such as a short blade battery, Global Intelligent Electric Architecture (GEA), CTB technology, and an 11-in-1 intelligent electric drive.
Overall, Geely’s expansion into Vietnam and Indonesia signals its commitment to establishing a strong presence in Southeast Asia and delivering innovative and sustainable mobility solutions to customers in the region. With a focus on local manufacturing, strategic partnerships, and a diverse product portfolio, Geely is poised to make a significant impact in the rapidly evolving automotive landscape of Southeast Asia.
