Can new Peugeot 5008 beat class leaders?

The European market for large SUVs has seen significant growth, thanks in part to the success of the Tesla Model Y. Despite facing tough competition from other models like the Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe, the Peugeot 5008 is making its mark in the segment.

The new Peugeot 5008, now in its third generation, offers a range of propulsion options including hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric. With sales of 43,000 units in 2024, the 5008 is gaining traction in the market, especially with its versatile seating options.

One of the key features of the 5008 is its ability to seat seven passengers, with an option for a two-row seating configuration for those who prefer a larger boot space. The interior of the 5008 is inspired by Peugeot’s i-Cockpit concept, featuring a digital dash-top display and ambient lighting that creates a visually stunning driving experience.

In terms of powertrain options, the 5008 offers a 1.2-liter engine for the hybrid model and a 1.6-liter engine for the plug-in hybrid variant. The hybrid model utilizes a 48-volt electrical system to enhance performance and efficiency, while the plug-in hybrid can be charged for electric-only driving.

Despite its impressive features, the 5008 does have some drawbacks, including a loud locking mechanism and a challenging gear selection toggle. However, overall, the Peugeot 5008 stands out in its class with its striking design, flexible seating options, and choice of advanced propulsion systems.

The new Peugeot 5008 Hybrid 136 e-DCS6 is available in Allure and GT specifications, with prices starting from GBP38,360. For businesses looking for a stylish and efficient large SUV, the Peugeot 5008 is definitely worth considering.
