Contemporary Amperex-BAIC (Beijing) New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. Unveiled

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On January 3, a significant development took place in the realm of electric vehicles as Beijing Contemporary Amperex Battery Co., Ltd., a joint venture involving CATL, BAIC Group, and Xiaomi EV, officially rebranded itself as Contemporary Amperex-BAIC (Beijing) New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. This transformation signifies a new chapter in the company’s journey towards innovation and sustainability.

The renaming also brought about an expansion in the company’s business scope, now encompassing a wide range of activities such as technical services, R&D, consultation, exchange, transfer, and promotion, in addition to battery sales and goods import and export activities.

Established in May 2024 with a registered capital of 1 billion yuan, Contemporary Amperex-BAIC (Beijing) New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. is a collaborative effort among industry giants CATL, BAIC Hailanxin Energy Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd., Xiaomi EV Technology Co., Ltd., and Beijing Jingneng Technology Co., Ltd. CATL holds the majority stake of 51%, followed by BAIC Hailanxin with 39%, and Beijing Jingneng Technology and Xiaomi EV with 5% each.

One of the key milestones in this partnership was the groundbreaking ceremony for the Beijing Contemporary Amperex Battery Base project on June 18, 2024. This ambitious project aims to set new standards in battery production by being a “Lighthouse Factory” and a “Zero-Carbon Factory.” Utilizing CATL’s cutting-edge high-speed, highly automated, and flexible production lines, the factory will cater to the growing demand for high-quality battery products in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
