Revolutionizing Hong Kong’s New Energy Vehicle Infrastructure with CATL’s Choco-Swap Solution

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- CATL, FAW Hongqi, and Shenzhen Longsheng New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (LS energy) have joined forces to break ground on Hong Kong’s first Choco-Swap station for passenger vehicles. This groundbreaking ceremony marks a significant milestone in the city’s development of new energy vehicle infrastructure.

Through this collaboration, Contemporary Amperex Energy Service Technology Limited (CAES), a subsidiary of CATL, has introduced the innovative Choco-Swap solution. This technology creates a new ecosystem for new energy vehicle refueling and promotes battery cyclic utilization for sustainable development. The implementation of Choco-Swap addresses challenges such as limited land availability and insufficient charging infrastructure in Hong Kong.

The first model to utilize CATL’s Choco-Swap solution in Hong Kong will be the Hongqi E-QM5. LS energy will handle land resources, infrastructure modifications, and vehicle sales for this initiative.

The goal of this tripartite collaboration is to establish Choco-Swap stations across Hong Kong and deploy battery electric taxis using the Hongqi E-QM5 model. Long-term plans include creating a new energy mobility network that extends from Hong Kong to ASEAN regions.

This initiative not only enhances Hong Kong’s green transportation infrastructure but also opens up international business opportunities for CATL’s Choco-Swap ecosystem, leveraging the city’s connectivity to global markets.

During the Choco-Swap ecosystem conference in December 2024, CATL announced a clear timetable for building its battery swap network. By 2025, the company aims to construct 1,000 Choco-Swap stations in Hong Kong and Macao, with plans to expand to 10,000 stations in collaboration with partners. Ultimately, the goal is to have 30,000 Choco-Swap stations built through collective efforts.
