CATL (SHE: 300750) has unveiled its latest innovation in the energy storage sector with the introduction of Tener Stack. This cutting-edge energy storage system was showcased at the battery storage exhibition in Munich, Germany, on May 7, marking a significant milestone in the industry. Tener Stack is hailed as the world’s first production-ready 9 MWh ultra-high-capacity energy storage system solution, setting new standards for system capacity, deployment flexibility, safety, and transportation efficiency.

Building on the success of its previous energy storage system, Tener, which boasted zero degradation for five years, CATL has once again raised the bar with Tener Stack. This new system features a standard 20-foot containerized design with an impressive total capacity of 9 MWh, making it the highest energy storage system in the world. Powered by CATL’s high energy density cells, Tener Stack offers zero degradation over five years and delivers a 45 percent increase in volume utilization and a 50 percent increase in energy density compared to traditional systems.

The capabilities of Tener Stack are truly remarkable, with the system capable of charging approximately 150 electric vehicles or powering an average German home for six years. Furthermore, deploying 800 MWh of storage capacity through Tener Stack requires fewer containers than conventional systems, leading to increased land use efficiency and cost savings in power plant construction.

To address transportation challenges, CATL has incorporated a “Two in One” modular design for Tener Stack, ensuring compliance with the legal weight limit for ground transportation in various countries. This innovative design reduces waiting times and transportation costs significantly, while also enhancing the system’s flexibility and safety during transportation.

Safety is a top priority for CATL, and Tener Stack features a three-layer insulation design that enhances fire resistance, earthquake resistance, and hurricane resistance. With the ability to withstand a magnitude 9 earthquake and a magnitude 5 hurricane, Tener Stack is designed to operate reliably in diverse environments and challenging conditions.

CATL’s energy storage business has been rapidly expanding, with its products being utilized in over 1,700 projects worldwide by the end of November 2024. The company’s revenue for 2024 reached RMB 362.01 billion ($50 billion), with the power battery systems business contributing 69.90 percent of total revenue and the energy storage battery systems business contributing 15.83 percent.

In conclusion, CATL’s Tener Stack represents a significant advancement in the energy storage sector, offering unparalleled capacity, flexibility, and safety features. With its groundbreaking design and impressive performance metrics, Tener Stack is poised to revolutionize the way energy storage systems are deployed and utilized around the world.
