Continental is showcasing the innovative “Emotional Cockpit” at the prestigious Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. One of the standout features of this cockpit is a 1.30-meter-long, four-centimeter-high E Ink Prism display that stretches across the entire width of the dashboard.

The application of Prism ePaper technology, commonly found in e-readers, adds a visually appealing element to the vehicle interior. It allows for a plethora of personalization options in the form of unique patterns, colors, and combinations, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the cockpit.

In addition to the visual appeal, E Ink displays can also serve practical purposes by showing critical driving information such as the remaining range. Continental has collaborated with E Ink, a renowned expert in ePaper technology, to bring this display technology to automotive interiors.

Pavel Prouza, the Head of the User Experience (UX) business area at Continental, emphasizes the importance of personalization and emotionality in the vehicles of the future. He notes that the younger generation, particularly Generation Z, values expressing their individuality and personality through digital media. The “Emotional Cockpit” caters to these evolving customer expectations by offering innovative ways to personalize the vehicle cockpit.

Furthermore, Continental highlights that E Ink Display technology is not limited to the interior of the vehicle. It can also be utilized effectively in vehicle exteriors, showcasing its versatility and potential applications in the automotive industry.

Another noteworthy innovation presented by Continental is the “Intelligent Vehicle Experience Demo Car,” which features an E Ink display mounted on the outside of the B-pillar. This display can be customized with personally selected content and even indicate the current charge level for electric vehicles. This feature eliminates the need to unlock the vehicle to check the available range, providing a convenient and practical benefit for users.

Overall, Continental’s advancements in E Ink technology demonstrate a commitment to enhancing the driving experience through personalization, emotionality, and innovative display solutions. These developments have the potential to reshape the future of automotive interiors and exteriors, catering to the evolving preferences of tech-savvy consumers.
