ChargePoint, a well-known player in the EV charging industry, has recently unveiled its latest charger product architecture, marking a significant advancement in AC Level 2 charging technology. This new technology, designed for consumers in both North America and Europe, boasts impressive features such as vehicle-to-everything (V2X) capabilities and the ability to charge an electric vehicle in as little as four hours.

With a track record of innovation and growth, ChargePoint has continuously pushed the boundaries of EV infrastructure development. In 2024, the company reached a milestone of one million global charging ports, showcasing its commitment to expanding and enhancing its network. Furthermore, ChargePoint has introduced various features to enhance the user experience, including the introduction of the “Omni Port,” which consolidates multiple charging plugs into one port for added convenience.

ChargePoint has also leveraged artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the reliability of its charging network by quickly identifying and resolving issues, ultimately leading to better network uptime and enhanced charging reliability. Additionally, the company has addressed common challenges faced by EV drivers, such as vandalism and theft, and has introduced new charger technology to make charging more affordable for fleets.

The latest development from ChargePoint is the introduction of a new charger architecture that promises to deliver advanced features and higher charging rates across residential, commercial, and fleet applications. This new architecture features bidirectional capabilities and offers charging speeds that are double those of most current AC Level 2 chargers. Hossein Kazemi, Chief Technical Officer of hardware at ChargePoint, emphasized the revolutionary nature of the new EV chargers, highlighting the enhanced experience they will provide for station owners and EV drivers.

The new ChargePoint chargers will support V2X capabilities, allowing residential and commercial customers to utilize EVs to power homes and buildings while also contributing excess energy back to the grid. Dynamic load balancing will enhance charging speeds by optimizing power distribution within the connected building structure, promoting efficiency and faster recharge rates. With the ability to achieve charging speeds of 80 amps/19.2 kW, these chargers can charge an average EV from 0 to 100% in just four hours.

Additional features of the new charger architecture include smart home integration, series-wiring capabilities, and compatibility with a wide range of EV makes and models through ChargePoint’s Omni Port technology. Compliant with regulations in both Europe and the US, these new chargers are set to launch in Europe this summer and in North America by the end of 2025.

In conclusion, ChargePoint’s latest charger architecture represents a significant step forward in EV charging technology, offering innovative features and enhanced capabilities to meet the evolving needs of EV owners and infrastructure stakeholders. With a focus on efficiency, reliability, and user experience, ChargePoint continues to lead the way in driving the adoption of electric vehicles and sustainable transportation solutions.
