Major electric vehicle (EV) makers in China saw a surge in insurance registrations last week, indicating a rise in deliveries as the month came to a close. Nio Inc, a prominent player in the EV market, reported a total of 7,930 vehicle registrations for insurance, marking the highest number in the past 14 weeks. This figure represented a significant 58.60 percent increase from the previous week’s 5,000 registrations.
Nio’s sub-brand, Onvo, also witnessed a substantial uptick in registrations, with 3,700 vehicles registered last week, marking a remarkable 145.03 percent increase from the previous week’s 1,510 registrations. Additionally, the Firefly brand, another sub-brand of Nio, reported 780 vehicle registrations, reflecting a notable 239.13 percent increase from the previous week’s 230 registrations.
The surge in registrations for Nio can be attributed to the launch of its flagship electric SUV, the L90, which generated high demand and prompted the brand to ramp up production. Furthermore, Firefly’s president, Daniel Jin, announced production line adjustments to facilitate faster deliveries, contributing to the overall increase in registrations for Nio Inc.
On the other hand, Tesla, a key player in the EV market, reported a 3.77 percent increase in insurance registrations in China last week, with a total of 11,020 registrations. The company’s factory in Shanghai, where the Model 3 sedan and Model Y crossover are produced, serves as a hub for both local deliveries and exports to overseas markets. Tesla is set to launch the six-seat Model Y L in China this fall, expanding its product offerings in the market.
Xpeng, another prominent EV maker, saw a 7.98 percent increase in insurance registrations last week, with a total of 9,070 registrations. The company delivered a record-breaking 36,717 vehicles in July, marking the ninth consecutive month of deliveries exceeding 30,000 units.
Li Auto, however, reported a decline in registrations, with 5,480 vehicles registered last week, down 25.95 percent from the previous week. The company recently launched the Li i8, its first pure electric SUV, and is working on streamlining its product offerings to boost sales.
In conclusion, the EV market in China continues to show strong momentum, with key players like Nio, Tesla, Xpeng, and Li Auto making significant strides in terms of deliveries and registrations. The competition is heating up as these companies strive to capture a larger share of the rapidly growing EV market in China.
