China’s EV dominance and Germany’s electrification push

The global electric vehicle (EV) market is experiencing significant growth, with China leading the way. In April, BEV deliveries increased by 39.4% year on year, while PHEVs saw a growth of 34%. China dominated the market, accounting for 57.5% of global BEV sales and 69.4% of PHEV deliveries in the first four months of 2025. Tesla and BYD remained at the forefront, with the Tesla Model Y and BYD’s Seagull leading the sales charts.

Germany has also made strides in promoting EV adoption, particularly in the corporate fleet sector. New incentives have been introduced to drive fleet electrification and support the country’s industrial and environmental goals. However, there are concerns about the impact on the used EV market, as a flood of vehicles could potentially affect residual values and consumer adoption.

In France, a group of Tesla drivers is suing the company, alleging that CEO Elon Musk’s political activities have damaged the brand’s image. The lawsuit claims that Musk’s public statements have made owning a Tesla uncomfortable for some drivers, leading them to seek termination of their leasing agreements.

Uber is set to test robotaxis in London next spring in collaboration with UK AI firm Wayve. This trial follows the UK government’s plans to fast-track autonomous transport services, aiming to roll out driverless taxis and buses sooner than previously anticipated. Meanwhile, Polestar has entered the French market with its Polestar 2, 3, and 4 models now available for purchase. The Volvo spin-off brand has resolved a legal dispute with Stellantis over logo similarities, allowing for its expansion into new markets.
