Chinese brand GWM set to enter UK pick-up market with Cannon model

Chinese automaker GWM has teased its entry into the UK pick-up market with the upcoming launch of its Cannon model. The company has released a preview image of the pick-up, showcasing its rugged and versatile design.

The new model is targeted towards customers and businesses seeking a capable and tough vehicle for their needs. GWM aims to appeal to those looking for a reliable and durable pick-up truck that can handle various terrains and tasks.

The Cannon, which is already available in Australia in right-hand-drive configuration, offers a choice of 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre diesel engines producing 161bhp and 181bhp respectively. The range includes single- and double-cab tippers, as well as a double-cab with a traditional load bay and four-wheel drive capabilities.

While UK pricing and specifications have not been revealed yet, the Cannon is expected to compete with popular models like the Isuzu D-Max, KGM Musso, and Ford Ranger upon its arrival. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in September, offering British consumers a new option in the competitive pick-up truck segment.

Internationally, the Cannon is known as the Poer and the P-Series, showcasing GWM’s global presence and commitment to offering versatile vehicles across different markets.

This move into the pick-up market follows GWM’s recent introduction of the Haval Jolion Pro in the UK, marking the brand’s entry into traditional combustion-powered cars in the region. The company also offers the Ora 03 (formerly known as the Funky Cat), although it has faced challenges in gaining significant sales traction.
