Cupra goes radical with 489bhp range-extender sports SUV

The Cupra Tindaya is a car designed with a strong focus on the driver, drawing inspiration from sports cars and racing. The cockpit reflects this driver-centric approach, with a steering wheel that has been replaced by a yoke connected electronically to the wheels, carbon-tubbed bucket seats, a 24-inch wraparound display, and traditional switches and buttons for controlling core functions. According to Rodriguez Bosch, the emphasis is on tactile controls over touchscreens, with a return to physical buttons for better interaction.

While the Tindaya does feature a full-width digital display, advanced voice control, and an interactive prism-shaped device for adjusting interior settings and drive modes, it notably does not include a touchscreen. This decision is based on Cupra’s belief in the potential for artificial intelligence to eventually fulfill the same functions as a touchscreen. Rodriguez Bosch sees AI as a way to revolutionize how drivers interact with their vehicles, with the technology evolving rapidly and customers adapting accordingly.

In the future, Cupra envisions AI as a key enabler for new forms of interaction, potentially making touchscreens obsolete. While customers may not be ready to completely abandon touchscreens yet, the rapid evolution of AI technology suggests that the shift may happen sooner than expected. As technology continues to progress, Cupra is at the forefront of innovation, paving the way for a new era of driver-vehicle interaction.
