Dealerships, Desperate to Survive, Could Use Robotic Salespeople

The introduction of AiMOGA, a robot sales consultant created by China-based Chery Automobiles, is set to revolutionize the car-buying experience at dealerships. This life-size female-shaped robot is designed to interact with customers at Chery 4S dealerships in Malaysia, taking on the role typically filled by pushy human salespeople.

AiMOGA, which stands for artificial intelligence mobile guided assistant, is equipped with cutting-edge technology including CheryGPT and DeepSeek AI modeling. This enables the robot to understand natural language and respond in context, making the interaction with customers more seamless and personalized. With bionic limbs, cool blue sunglasses, and a band of blonde hair, AiMOGA certainly looks the part of a futuristic sales consultant.

However, the demo video showcasing AiMOGA in action raises concerns about the authenticity of the sales experience. The robot goes through a scripted sales pitch, highlighting features of a new car in a way that feels outdated and disingenuous. It begs the question of whether customers truly want or need this type of interaction when shopping for a vehicle.

In a world where information is readily accessible online, traditional dealerships have struggled to adapt to changing consumer preferences. The rise of direct-to-consumer sales models further challenges the relevance of traditional dealership practices. AiMOGA’s introduction is a bold attempt to modernize the car-buying experience, but it remains to be seen whether customers will embrace this new approach.

Despite the skepticism, AiMOGA robots are set to become a fixture at Chery dealerships in Malaysia. Whether they will succeed in winning over customers and revolutionizing the way cars are sold remains to be seen. Only time will tell if pushy salespeople will indeed be replaced by pushy robots in the future of car buying.
