Choosing the Right Family Car: A Comparison of the Subaru Solterra and Skoda Enyaq

When it comes to selecting the perfect family car, there are many factors to consider. Recently, our family was in search of a new vehicle to replace our trusty 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan. Both the Subaru Solterra Touring and the Skoda Enyaq 85x Sportline Plus caught our attention, each offering unique features and capabilities.

While four-wheel drive was not a necessity for us, both of our top contenders happened to have this feature. The Subaru Solterra Touring impressed with its quick acceleration, excellent standard equipment, and overall performance. However, it fell short in terms of aesthetics, range, and boot space. On the other hand, the Skoda Enyaq 85x Sportline Plus offered more space, slightly better acceleration, a longer range, and a more appealing design. Additionally, the proximity of a Skoda dealer was a plus point for us.

Despite the higher retail price of the Subaru Solterra at £54,840 compared to the Enyaq, the monthly payments for the Solterra were lower when financed through Black Horse. Opting for a three-year term with an annual mileage allowance of 5000 miles, the Solterra was priced at £458 per month. On the other hand, the Enyaq was quoted at £521 per month through Lex Autolease, with no additional payment required in the first month for either vehicle.

When considering tax savings, various factors come into play depending on your business structure and personal tax situation. Sole traders in the basic rate band can save up to 20% by opting for a company car through a business lease compared to paying for the same car from their personal income. For VAT-registered sole traders, the savings can increase to 27%.

In conclusion, while both the Subaru Solterra and Skoda Enyaq have their strengths and weaknesses, the Enyaq emerged as the more practical and cost-effective choice for our family. With its spacious interior, longer range, and competitive lease pricing, the Enyaq proved to be the ideal replacement for our beloved Volkswagen Tiguan.
