Elon Musk goes from sleeping on Tesla’s factory floor to sleeping in sales office

Elon Musk Takes Over Tesla’s Sales Responsibilities in North America and Europe

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, is making a significant shift in his responsibilities by taking over the sales operations for Tesla in North America and Europe. This move comes amid a leadership transition within the company.

In the past, Musk famously claimed to be “sleeping on the factory floor” to help with production efforts when Tesla was struggling to meet demand due to production constraints. However, Tesla has since overcome these constraints and is now operating its factories at about 50% capacity due to demand issues.

The company’s sales have been declining, partly due to Musk’s controversial statements on social media and involvement in politics, which have alienated some of Tesla’s customer base. Despite blaming poor performance in the first quarter on production changeovers for the Model Y, Tesla is expected to report similarly disappointing results for the second quarter.

Recent reports indicate that Musk has fired Omead Afshar, the former chief of staff responsible for overseeing Tesla’s operations in North America and Europe. It seems that Musk is attributing Tesla’s sales struggles to Afshar.

According to Bloomberg, Musk will now personally oversee sales in North America and Europe following Afshar’s departure. This additional responsibility adds to Musk’s already extensive list of roles, including CEO of SpaceX, leader at X, xAI, The Boring Company, Neuralink, and his involvement in launching a new political party in the US.

While Musk is taking on sales responsibilities, manufacturing operations in these regions will once again fall under the leadership of Tom Zhu. Zhu, known for his successful management of Gigafactory Shanghai, has been tasked with leading Tesla’s manufacturing efforts globally.

Despite Zhu’s past successes, Tesla has faced challenges in sales in China, with year-to-date sales down compared to the previous year. Musk’s decision to reassign responsibilities within the company reflects his ongoing efforts to address sales and demand issues.

In conclusion, Elon Musk’s involvement in Tesla’s sales operations marks a significant shift in leadership responsibilities. As the company continues to navigate challenges in the EV market, Musk’s hands-on approach to sales could signal a new direction for Tesla’s business strategy. Only time will tell how these changes will impact Tesla’s performance in the coming months.
