Emporia Energy, a veteran energy management specialist, has recently launched its newest home EV charger, the “Pro.” This innovative charger boasts built-in load management capabilities and charging speeds that are 9 times faster than a standard outlet. Emporia Energy, founded in 2018 in Colorado, aims to make home energy more efficient, affordable, and accessible to everyone by revolutionizing home energy management. Their lineup of products provides customers with energy management solutions to help save money, reduce carbon footprint, and take control of energy consumption.

One of Emporia’s successful products is the “Classic” Level 2 EV charger, which was recognized as the best home charging outlet of 2024 by several media outlets. This charger seamlessly integrates with Emporia’s Home Energy Management Platform, optimizing home energy usage without requiring a panel upgrade. Building on this success, Emporia has introduced the “Pro” Level 2 EV charger, which now features new load management technology.

The Emporia Pro EV charger offers charging speeds that are up to 9 times faster than a standard 100V plug. Many homeowners are hesitant to purchase an EV due to the installation of a Level 2 charger being a potential roadblock, especially in older homes lacking the necessary amperage. Emporia addresses this issue with its PowerSmart Load Management technology, which monitors available power through the Vue Home Energy Monitor installed in the electrical panel. This system dynamically adjusts charging rates based on real-time data to ensure safe and efficient charging without exceeding the panel’s capacity.

Emporia CEO Shawn McLaughlin emphasizes the significance of the Pro charger in overcoming infrastructure challenges and cost barriers associated with Level 2 charging. The Pro charger can deliver speeds of up to 48 amps hardwired or 40 amps with a NEMA 14-50 plug, compatible with all J1772-equipped EVs. For Tesla owners, a NACS adapter will be available soon. The charger also enables time-of-use functionality based on utility rate plans and can integrate with other smart home products like solar panels and smart appliances.

The Emporia Pro EV charger is UL-certified, Energystar-rated, and NEMA-4-rated, featuring a 25-foot cable and wall-mounted cable management holder for a tidy garage. Priced at $599, the Pro charger includes the Vue Home Energy Monitor. This innovative product aims to make EV charging more convenient, cost-effective, and energy-efficient for homeowners.
