Fiat to Launch 4×4 Version of Grande Panda
Fiat is set to introduce a 4×4 version of its new Grande Panda, as confirmed by CEO Olivier François during a recent event. The decision to offer a 4×4 variant of the popular supermini is part of Fiat’s strategy to pay homage to the original Panda from the 1980s.
While the technical details of the 4×4 model are still being finalized, François mentioned that the company is exploring whether it will be available in hybrid, electric, or both versions. He expressed the brand’s commitment to introducing this new variant to enhance the Grande Panda lineup.
When asked about the potential configurations for the 4×4 model, François stated, “We’re trying to find the solution and a way. The question is whether it should be an ICE 4×4 or an EV 4×4. We’re looking at solutions and how and when – but we get the point and would like to do something like it soon.”
While a seven-seat version of the Grande Panda has been ruled out, François hinted at Fiat’s plans to focus on larger models based on the Smart Car platform, as showcased in the concepts revealed last year. These models will cater to a global audience, with a particular emphasis on electrified versions.
Additionally, Fiat will introduce a pure-combustion model with a manual gearbox, primarily targeting emerging markets to expand the Grande Panda’s global presence. François emphasized the brand’s commitment to electrified vehicles and expressed confidence in the demand for such models in the European market.
Explaining the shift towards a ‘utility vehicle’ like the Grande Panda in the B-segment, François highlighted the model’s global appeal compared to traditional superminis like the old Punto, which were more Europe-focused. He mentioned Fiat’s focus on meeting the evolving needs of customers with a diverse range of models.
