Fiat has announced exciting plans to launch a new lineup of city cars in the coming years, reaffirming its commitment to producing iconic vehicles in Italy. The new Fiat 500 is set to debut in 2029, followed by a new Panda in 2030, signaling the brand’s dedication to the city car segment.
Jean-Philippe Imparato, COO for Europe at Fiat’s parent company Stellantis, shared details of the upcoming releases at the Brussels motor show. The new Fiat 500 will include a hybrid version in November 2025, with the next generation set to arrive in 2029 at the Mirafiori factory in Turin. The Panda, affectionately referred to as the Pandina internally, will continue production at the Pomigliano factory in Naples until 2030, when a new Pandina will be introduced at the same location.
In addition to these models, Fiat will also unveil the Grande Panda in March 2025, featuring both electric and hybrid variants. This comprehensive lineup of A- and B-segment cars demonstrates Fiat’s commitment to preserving the city car heritage that has defined the brand for decades.
While many competitors have shifted focus towards crossovers and SUVs, Fiat remains steadfast in its dedication to city cars. Citroën, Peugeot, Volkswagen, Seat, Skoda, and Ford have discontinued their city car offerings in recent years, leaving room for Fiat to continue leading in this segment.
Despite the changing landscape, there are signs of hope for city cars, with Kia, Hyundai, Toyota, and Renault continuing to offer petrol-engined models. Renault is also set to launch a new electric Twingo, while Chinese manufacturer BYD is expected to introduce its Seagull EV in the UK.
The Fiat 500 and Panda have been instrumental in the brand’s success, with the Panda remaining a top-selling car in Italy even after 14 years since its launch. The upcoming releases reflect Fiat’s ongoing commitment to innovation and quality in the city car category.
With a rich history and a promising future, Fiat is poised to continue captivating drivers with its distinctive blend of style, performance, and Italian craftsmanship. Stay tuned for more updates on these exciting new releases from Fiat.
