Ford has recently commenced the mass production of vehicle drive battery packs in three different sizes exclusively for use in Ford’s new generation of electric vehicles, including the Ford Explorer and Ford Capri. These vehicles are being assembled at the Cologne Electric Vehicle Center.

As part of a significant $2 billion investment in the historic Cologne plant, Ford has introduced a fully digitalized facility that ensures high-quality standards, efficiency, and a substantial reduction in transportation. This new plant is fully aligned with vehicle assembly at the same location, marking a pivotal moment in Ford’s commitment to electric vehicle production.

The Cologne plant has been a cornerstone of Ford production in Europe for nearly a century, and the introduction of the new battery assembly plant signifies a shift towards an electric future. The facility boasts 180 newly installed robots that are responsible for welding, gluing, and screwing the battery housing together, as well as equipping it with up to 12 battery modules. A total of approximately 2,775 individual parts are assembled into a battery pack on a highly automated 2 km-long production line.

Furthermore, Ford of Europe is expanding its capacity towards an electric future, with electric vehicles also being produced at Ford Otosan’s assembly plants in Craiova, Romania, and Kocaeli, Turkey. Electric drive units are produced at Ford’s facility in Halewood, UK, showcasing Ford’s commitment to sustainable mobility solutions.

In addition to the advancements in electric vehicle production, Ford is currently accepting nominations for the prestigious Just Auto Excellence Awards. This renowned program celebrates innovation, leadership, and impact within the automotive industry. Nominations are open to showcase achievements, highlight industry advancements, and gain global recognition. This is an opportunity for industry professionals to be honored among the best in the industry. Interested individuals can submit their nominations to be considered for these esteemed awards.
