GE Vernova lands repower orders for 1 GW of US wind turbines

GE Vernova’s onshore wind business has recently announced that it has secured orders in 2024 to repower over 1 gigawatt (GW) of wind turbines in the United States. Repowering older wind turbines involves upgrading aging components such as turbines, blades, and nacelles with the latest technology, resulting in improved efficiency, increased power capacity, and a longer lifespan for the wind farms. This process also includes updating other infrastructure and control systems, ultimately extending the life of the wind farm while using fewer resources and reducing operational costs.

The repowering projects for which GE Vernova has received orders will utilize nacelles and drive trains manufactured in their Pensacola, Florida factory. Matt Lynch, the general manager of Repower at GE Vernova, emphasized the importance of these repower projects in meeting the growing energy demand in the United States while supporting local workers and factories.

These orders were secured between the first and fourth quarters of 2024, with the repower projects expected to be operational between 2024 and 2027. GE Vernova’s onshore wind business currently boasts a total installed base of approximately 56,000 turbines and nearly 120 GW of installed capacity worldwide.

In addition to their wind repower projects, GE Vernova is actively involved in promoting cleantech investments, which are projected to surpass investments in fossil fuels for the first time in 2025. This shift towards cleaner energy sources aligns with the company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.

For individuals living in areas prone to natural disasters, investing in solar panels and battery storage systems can enhance resilience during power outages. By partnering with EnergySage, a trusted platform that connects consumers with reputable solar installers, homeowners can access competitive pricing and high-quality solutions while saving 20-30% compared to going through the process alone. EnergySage offers personalized solar quotes and support from Energy Advisers to guide homeowners through every step of the solar installation process.

By incorporating renewable energy solutions like wind repowering and solar installations, companies like GE Vernova are contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future while empowering individuals to take control of their energy consumption and resilience.
