Geotab introduces AI-vision safety sensor to reduce collisions

Geotab recently introduced GO Focus, an innovative AI-powered safety sensor that aims to enhance driver safety while adhering to privacy and compliance regulations. The device works in conjunction with Geotab’s existing GO Device, providing targeted video insights that capture essential events to assist in safety and accident investigations.

Designed specifically for fleets operating under strict privacy regulations or labour agreements that prohibit the use of inward-facing cameras, GO Focus features a road-facing sensor, no microphone, and no removable storage. This setup ensures that safety insights are gathered without compromising driver privacy.

For organizations that are restricted from using in-cab video monitoring, GO Focus offers a compliant alternative to monitor safety risks effectively. The sensor is capable of identifying unsafe following distances, allowing fleet managers to detect and address potential hazards proactively.

In the event of a collision, the forward-facing sensor automatically records and uploads footage, ensuring that key incidents are documented for further analysis. Additionally, drivers have the option to manually trigger recordings using a dashboard-mounted button, enabling them to capture video evidence when needed.

Sabina Martin, Geotab’s Vice President of Product Management, highlighted the importance of GO Focus in striking a balance between privacy and safety. The AI-powered sensor accurately captures a leading collision risk, such as following too closely, which is often caused by driver distraction, fatigue, or phone use. With this data, fleet managers can coach drivers more effectively, reducing preventable crashes and improving overall driver safety.

In a collaborative effort to further enhance driver safety, Geotab and Vitality have formed a joint venture. This partnership combines telematics data with behavioral science to create a unique solution aimed at improving driver safety and well-being. The initial offering from the joint venture provides fleets with access to a behavior change platform that incentivizes and rewards safe driving practices.

The program is designed to yield lasting improvements in driver performance, reduce accident-related costs, and decrease fleet risks, ultimately contributing to safer and more efficient fleet operations. By empowering organizations with data-driven insights, positive driver coaching, and a rewards system, the joint offering from Geotab and Vitality aims to mitigate risks and lower expenses associated with fleet operations.

Overall, GO Focus and the collaboration between Geotab and Vitality represent significant advancements in the field of driver safety and fleet management. These innovative solutions are poised to revolutionize the way organizations approach safety monitoring and risk mitigation in their operations.
