Great Wall Motor (SHA: 601633) has recently joined forces with Nio (NYSE: NIO) to tap into the vast electric vehicle (EV) charging network in China. This partnership allows users of Great Wall Motor’s Haval, Wey, Ora, and Tank brands to access Nio Power’s charging network, offering a seamless and efficient charging experience.
Nio Power, the energy arm of Nio, announced the collaboration on the Nio App, highlighting the extensive coverage and user-friendly interface of the charging service. Through their mobile apps, users of Great Wall Motor’s brands can easily locate and utilize Nio Power’s charging piles across China, enhancing their overall charging experience.
This partnership makes Great Wall Motor the 17th brand to integrate with Nio’s charging network, following in the footsteps of other leading automakers like Xiaomi EV, Arcfox, Avatr, and Chery. With a growing number of EV manufacturers joining forces with Nio, the charging infrastructure in China continues to expand, providing users with more accessibility and convenience.
In 2024, Great Wall Motor saw a significant increase in sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs), including plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs). Despite a slight decline in January sales due to seasonal factors, the automaker remains committed to driving the adoption of electric vehicles in the market.
Nio’s charging network stands out as one of the largest in China, with 2,665 supercharging stations and 1,688 destination charging stations offering a wide range of charging options. Additionally, the company’s battery swap stations, totaling 3,113 in China, provide an alternative charging solution for users on the go.
During the recent Chinese New Year holiday period, Nio facilitated over one million charging services, with a significant portion catering to non-Nio users. This underscores the network’s openness to other EV brands, with users from over 210 brands, including Tesla, BYD, and Li Auto, utilizing Nio Power’s charging facilities.
The collaboration between Great Wall Motor and Nio signifies a strategic move towards bolstering the EV charging ecosystem in China. As more automakers join forces with leading charging providers like Nio, the industry continues to evolve, offering users a seamless and efficient charging experience.
