Great Wall Motor (GWM) experienced moderate growth in car sales last month, with a significant increase in new energy vehicle (NEV) sales. According to recently released data, the automaker sold a total of 102,231 vehicles in May, marking an 11.78 percent year-on-year increase and a 2.17 percent month-on-month increase.
NEV sales were particularly impressive, reaching 32,638 units in May. This accounted for a record 31.93 percent of total vehicle sales for GWM, representing a 32.41 percent year-on-year increase and a 13.28 percent month-on-month increase. This performance marked the third consecutive month of sequential growth in NEV sales for GWM and also stood as the highest monthly figure so far this year.
By brand, Haval led the way with 57,693 vehicles sold in May, making up 56.43 percent of GWM’s monthly sales. The Tank brand followed with 20,900 units sold, contributing 20.44 percent, while Wey sold 1,961 units (6.03 percent) and Ora sold 1,961 units (1.92 percent).
Overseas sales also saw positive growth, with GWM selling 34,535 vehicles internationally in May. This represented a 0.17 percent year-on-year increase and a 7.37 percent month-on-month increase.
Looking at the year-to-date figures, from January to May, GWM sold a total of 459,099 vehicles, marking a 0.54 percent year-on-year decrease. However, NEV sales during the same period reached 124,009 units, showing a 16.70 percent year-on-year increase. Overseas sales for the first five months of the year totaled 157,590 vehicles, down by 3.55 percent compared to the previous year.
Overall, GWM continues to demonstrate strong performance in both domestic and international markets, with a growing focus on NEVs driving sales to new heights. By staying competitive and innovative in the rapidly evolving automotive industry, GWM looks set to maintain its upward trajectory in the months to come.
