Tesla, the renowned electric vehicle manufacturer, experienced a slight dip in sales in China during the month of October. Despite this, the company’s exports from its Shanghai factory saw a significant increase of 72.41 percent compared to the previous month.

According to data released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), Tesla sold a total of 68,280 vehicles in China in October, with 27,795 of them being exported. This translates to 40,485 vehicles sold domestically, marking the lowest sales figure since April. However, this still represents a 41.43 percent increase from the same period last year.

In the first ten months of the year, Tesla managed to sell a total of 500,685 vehicles in China, demonstrating a growth of 8.29 percent compared to the previous year. The company’s Shanghai factory, which produces the popular Model 3 sedan and Model Y crossover, serves both the local market and acts as an export hub.

During the month of October, Tesla focused more on exporting vehicles, as is typical for the beginning of a new quarter. This strategy led to a decrease in overall sales in China, with a notable drop of 22.69 percent compared to the previous month.

The breakdown of Tesla’s October sales in China revealed that the Model Y accounted for 61.90 percent of total sales, with 42,265 units sold. On the other hand, the Model 3 contributed 38.10 percent of sales, amounting to 26,015 units. Despite these figures, specific retail sales data for these models is not yet available.

In the broader context of the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) market, Tesla’s market share in October stood at 3.39 percent, down from 6.43 percent in September. Within the battery electric vehicle (BEV) segment, Tesla captured a 6.02 percent market share in October, signaling a slight decrease from the previous month.

Overall, Tesla’s performance in China reflects the dynamic nature of the EV market in the region. With a focus on exports and a diverse product lineup, the company continues to be a key player in driving the adoption of electric vehicles in China and beyond.
