Great Wall Motor’s (GWM) Haval H7 is set to make its debut in the South African market on January 15, with plans to eventually expand to other international markets. This vehicle is essentially a rebranded version of the Haval Second-Generation Big Dog that is currently sold in China but tailored for overseas markets.
In China, the Haval Second-Generation Big Dog is available in two variants – a gasoline-powered model priced between 135,800 – 156,800 yuan (approximately 18,500 – 21,400 USD) and a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variant priced between 162,800 – 179,800 yuan (approximately 22,200 – 24,500 USD).
The exterior design of the Haval H7 closely resembles its domestic counterpart, featuring round headlights, a polygonal grille adorned with chrome accents, and the iconic “HAVAL” letter logo at the center. The car is equipped with multi-spoke rims, rivet elements on the wheel eyebrows, and a roof-mounted luggage rack. While the exact dimensions of the Haval H7 have not been officially disclosed, the Haval Second-Generation Big Dog measures 4705 mm in length, 1908 mm in width, and 1780 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2810 mm.
In terms of powertrain options, the Haval H7 is expected to offer a choice between a 1.5T or 2.0T gasoline engine and a 1.5T plug-in hybrid system. However, specific power output details have not been released by the manufacturer yet.
For reference, the domestic PHEV variant of the Haval Second-Generation Big Dog is powered by GWM’s Hi4 plug-in hybrid system, consisting of a 1.5T engine, dual electric motors, and a 2-speed DHT transmission. The gasoline-powered variant comes with a 1.5T engine producing 135 kW/275 Nm or a 2.0T engine generating 175 kW/385 Nm, paired with 7DCT or 9DCT transmissions, respectively.
As the launch date approaches, automotive enthusiasts can expect more information about the Haval H7 to be revealed. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting new addition to Great Wall Motor’s lineup.
