Ram’s Electric Pickup Truck Delayed Once Again
Ram’s highly anticipated electric pickup truck, the 1500 REV, has faced yet another delay in its release date. Initially set to hit the market by the end of 2024, the launch was postponed to the first half of 2025, then to 2026. Now, Ram has announced that production of the electric pickup truck will be pushed back until summer 2027, with it arriving as a 2028 model year. The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) Ramcharger version will also be delayed until the first quarter of 2026.
According to a memo sent to suppliers, the delay is attributed to the need to extend the quality validation period. Stellantis, the parent company of Ram, confirmed the news, stating that the decision was made to align the product strategy in North America with the Range Extended Ram and in response to slowing consumer demand for half-ton BEV pickups.
The Ram 1500 REV is expected to come equipped with a massive 168 kWh battery, offering an estimated 350-mile range. A larger 229 kWh battery option is also in the works, promising at least 500 miles of range. Former Stellantis CEO, Carlos Tavares, had previously promised that Ram’s electric pickup would outperform its competitors in terms of range, towing capacity, and charging times. The Ram 1500 REV is projected to have a towing capacity of up to 14,000 lbs and a 2,700 lb max payload.
In comparison to other electric pickup trucks on the market, such as Ford’s F-150 Lightning and the 2025 Chevy Silverado EV, Ram’s offering aims to be competitive with its impressive range, towing capacity, and payload capacity. However, with the recent delay in production, questions arise regarding whether Ram will be able to outperform its competitors or if it risks falling behind in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle market.
Stellantis is currently prioritizing the rollout of its first electric Jeep and Dodge models, the Wagoneer S and Charger Daytona, which have seen solid sales numbers in the US. While the demand for electric vehicles continues to grow, the delay in the release of the Ram 1500 REV raises concerns about Stellantis’s ability to meet the needs of consumers in an increasingly competitive market.
As the electric vehicle industry continues to expand, it will be interesting to see how Ram’s electric pickup truck performs once it finally hits the market in 2028. With advancements in technology and increasing consumer demand for electric vehicles, Ram will need to ensure that the 1500 REV lives up to the expectations set by its competitors in order to succeed in this rapidly evolving market.
