Honda has issued a recall for more than 200,000 crossover SUVs due to a potential safety issue with the fuel-filler neck components. The affected vehicles include the 2023-2024 Honda Passport two-row mid-size SUVs and the 2023-2025 Honda Pilot three-row mid-size SUVs. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has reported that some of these vehicles may have an incomplete connection between the fuel-filler neck tube and pipe, which could lead to fuel leakage and fire hazards.
According to Honda, during the installation of the fuel pipe assembly, components may have been assembled out of sequence, resulting in an improper connection between the fuel-filler neck tube and pipe. This could cause the two pieces to separate in the event of a crash, leading to fuel leakage and a potential fire risk. While Honda has received one warranty claim related to this issue, there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities as of November 20, 2024.
To address the issue, Honda dealers will inspect the fuel-filler neck tube and pipe and perform any necessary repairs to ensure a complete and secure connection, at no cost to the owners. Additionally, Honda will reimburse owners who have already incurred expenses for this repair. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed out by January 6, 2025. Owners can also contact Honda’s customer service department at 1-888-234-2138 or visit Honda’s recall site for more information. The reference number for this recall is OKM.
It is worth noting that the Passport and Pilot models were not included in two other recent recalls by Honda, one for cracked fuel pumps affecting approximately 720,000 vehicles and another for steering problems impacting 1.7 million vehicles. Honda is committed to ensuring the safety and quality of its vehicles and encourages owners to take prompt action to address any potential safety concerns.
