Honda Unveils Super EV Concept at Goodwood Festival of Speed
Honda recently unveiled a new concept car at the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed, giving a glimpse of a city-focused electric vehicle. Named the Super EV Concept, this A-segment hatchback is set to compete with rivals such as the Hyundai Inster, Fiat 500e, and upcoming Renault Twingo, drawing inspiration from the popular Honda E supermini in terms of styling.
While technical details are still limited, Honda has emphasized that the Super EV Concept is designed to showcase how a small and affordable EV can offer an enjoyable driving experience. The concept has already undergone testing in the UK as part of its global trial.
Aside from the Super EV Concept, Honda also used the event to present the radical 0 Series SUV concept in Europe for the first time, along with the Civic Type R Ultimate Edition. The new Prelude coupé is also making its presence felt as it tackles the iconic Goodwood hillclimb.
If the Super EV Concept were to make it to production, it would likely serve as the entry-level model in Honda’s expanding EV lineup, complementing the upscale 0 Series range. The Japanese automaker has ambitious plans to introduce seven new EV models in the coming years, all featuring a new platform, advanced batteries, and innovative motor technologies.
“As society transitions from early adoption to widespread acceptance of EVs, it is crucial for us to invest in our EV strategy,” said Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe in an interview with Autocar.
In addition to its EV initiatives, Honda is also focusing on hybridization, with plans to launch 13 new hybrid models globally by 2030. These vehicles will utilize what Honda claims to be the most efficient combustion engine powertrains available, serving as a bridge towards the mass adoption of electric vehicles.
