Hyundai IONIQ 5 goes 360,000 miles on original battery [video]

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 is making headlines for its incredible longevity, with one particular model driving over 360,000 miles on its original battery. What’s even more impressive is that the battery still maintained 87% health, even though the owner exclusively used DC fast charging to charge the car to 100%. This feat is truly remarkable, especially considering that the car is still going strong after more than 50,000 miles since the battery replacement.

The odometer on this white Hyundai IONIQ 5 reads an astonishing 666,255 km, which is over 413,990 miles. According to the owner, these miles were covered in less than three-and-a-half years, averaging just under 10,000 miles per month. This is an incredible achievement, showcasing the durability and reliability of the Hyundai EV.

However, like any vehicle driven extreme miles, the IONIQ 5 did experience some issues along the way. The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) broke, preventing the car from being charged on AC chargers. Additionally, regular maintenance such as changing differential oils and brake fluids was necessary to keep the car running smoothly.

The most significant repair came at 360,000 miles when the battery was replaced, well beyond its original warranty. Despite enduring countless fast charging cycles, the battery retained an impressive 87% of its original health. This showcases the quality and durability of Hyundai’s battery technology.

Stories like this are crucial for showcasing the longevity and reliability of electric vehicles, especially as the average age of vehicles on US roads continues to increase. With the success of the IONIQ 5, Hyundai has proven that its EVs can go the distance, providing a compelling option for consumers looking for a reliable and long-lasting electric vehicle.
