The Hyundai OBSIDIAN electric sedan concept is a striking new design that combines elements of the Honda 0 Saloon, Tesla Cybertruck, and the futuristic aesthetic of the movie Total Recall. Collaborating with design students from Munich University of Applied Sciences in Germany, Hyundai has created a concept that is both edgy and aggressive, standing out in the crowded electric vehicle market.

One of the standout features of the OBSIDIAN concept is its square-segmented “pixel style” LED light bar, reminiscent of the design language seen in the updated 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Grandeur sedan concept. This unique styling gives the OBSIDIAN a distinct Hyundai identity, marking a departure from the generic designs of the past.

With opaque, red-tinted windows hinting at a luxurious interior, the OBSIDIAN concept exudes a sense of exclusivity and sophistication. While there are no concrete plans for production yet, Hyundai executives have expressed their enthusiasm for the concept, praising it as a bold design statement at the annual car design event.

Designed primarily by Munich University student Dominik Anders and supported by Hyundai, the OBSIDIAN concept showcases the brand’s commitment to nurturing emerging talent and exploring innovative automotive design. The collaboration highlights Hyundai’s evolution from a follower to a trendsetter in the automotive industry.

While there is no interior yet, the photos of the styling buck reveal the sleek and futuristic design of the OBSIDIAN concept. Whether this concept will influence future Hyundai models remains to be seen, but it certainly has generated excitement and interest in the automotive design community.

Overall, the Hyundai OBSIDIAN concept represents a bold step forward for Hyundai, showcasing their commitment to pushing the boundaries of design and innovation in the electric vehicle market. With its unique styling and attention-grabbing features, the OBSIDIAN concept is sure to turn heads and spark conversations in the automotive world.
