Hyundai recently unveiled its latest electric vehicle, the Creta Electric SUV, showcasing a blend of features and design elements from the popular IONIQ lineup. The electric SUV boasts a impressive range of nearly 300 miles, making it a promising addition to Hyundai’s electric vehicle portfolio.
The launch event for the Creta Electric was a significant moment for Hyundai, particularly in the Indian market where it is the first locally produced electric SUV. Mr. Tarun Garg, CEO of Hyundai’s India operations, expressed excitement about the potential of the Creta Electric to redefine the market, building on the success of the existing gas-powered Creta SUV which has sold over 1.1 million units.
Visually, the Creta Electric stands out with its IONIQ-inspired design elements, including a pixelated front grille, lower bumper, and LED tail lamps. The addition of Active Air Flaps, Aero Alloy Wheels, and Low Rolling Resistance tires further enhance the vehicle’s efficiency and performance.
Offered with two battery pack options – 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh – the Creta Electric delivers impressive driving ranges of 242 miles (390 km) and 293 miles (473 km) respectively. The inclusion of DC fast charging capability allows the SUV to charge from 10% to 80% in just 58 minutes, while a 11 kW Smart Connected Wall Box charger can fully charge the vehicle in 4 hours.
In terms of features, the Creta Electric introduces vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology for powering external devices, along with an ergonomic shift-by-wire driving system and a digital key for added convenience. The electric SUV is available in four models – Executive, Smart, Premium, and Excellence – with a range of color options to choose from.
While pricing details are yet to be revealed, the Creta Electric is expected to be priced around $25,000 (Rs 22.00 Lakh), positioning it as a competitive offering in the electric SUV market. Unfortunately, the Creta Electric is not slated for release in the US. However, Hyundai is launching the 2025 IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 9 models, both of which qualify for the $7,500 US tax credit.
