Hyundai uses Equinix data centres for its HCloud

Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) recently announced a groundbreaking partnership with Equinix to deploy its in-house private cloud platform, HCloud, within Equinix data centers worldwide. This move aims to enhance customer experience and improve service quality for its connected car service subscribers globally.

The development of HCloud by HMG was in response to the increasing demand for real-time data processing, seamless connectivity, and scalable infrastructure driven by the rapid advancements in connected and autonomous vehicles. Leveraging Equinix International Business Exchange’s (IBX) data centers across Asia, the United States, and Europe, as well as Equinix Fabric, HMG is interconnecting HCloud with multiple public cloud providers, including Amazon Web Services (AWS). This hybrid multi-cloud architecture accelerates the global rollout of connected car services (CCS) while ensuring reliable connectivity, consistent service coverage, and reduced latency.

HMG’s CCS offers in-car infotainment and mobile applications via wireless networks. With over 10 million global CCS subscribers since its launch in 2003, HMG aims to reach 20 million subscribers by 2026. To achieve this growth, the automaker is investing significantly in the development and expansion of HCloud to deliver enhanced in-car services, including a personalized driving experience.

By 2030, HMG anticipates that 95% of the new vehicles it sells globally will utilize connected services, highlighting the necessity for distributed data processing and proximity to cloud and network ecosystems to ensure a high-quality user experience. This led to the deployment of HCloud in Equinix IBX data centers in Seoul, Los Angeles, and Frankfurt, strategically chosen for their global reach, carrier density, and high operational standards backed by service-level agreements (SLAs). The proximity to major cloud and network providers at Equinix will enable HMG to strengthen connections with key partners, support robust performance, and scalability.

The partnership with Equinix will enable HMG to enhance app responsiveness, improve the quality of remote services, and facilitate the transition to software-defined vehicles (SDVs). This collaboration lays the foundation for smarter, safer, and more connected mobility solutions, positioning HMG as a global leader in connected car services.

In a statement, HMG expressed its excitement about the partnership with Equinix, stating that by leveraging Equinix’s global data centers, they can provide high-quality connected car services, improve user experience through reduced latency, stable global connectivity, and enhanced scalability of the HCloud platform. This collaboration marks a significant step towards achieving the company’s goal of becoming a global leader in connected car services, and they look forward to continuing their journey with Equinix to sustain the momentum of their growing connected car ecosystem worldwide.
