Italdesign and the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) of Turin have recently unveiled the Vision Rapida concept, a sports car designed to cater to the preferences of Generation Z. This fastback vehicle measures 4.51m in length, 1.86m in width, and 1.28m in height, drawing inspiration from the iconic Japanese sports cars of the 1990s that are highly revered by today’s youth.
The concept car was meticulously crafted to enhance aerodynamic performance and eliminate any unnecessary design elements, making it both stylish and practical for everyday use. The fastback rear section was specifically chosen to optimize boot space, ensuring that the Vision Rapida is not only visually appealing but also functional.
Stepping inside the Vision Rapida, you’ll find a 2+2 layout with a sleek center console and a futuristic dashboard reminiscent of a fighter jet cockpit from the 1990s era. While paying homage to classic sports cars, the interior features a minimalist control setup centered around a large infotainment touchscreen, giving the cabin a modern and sophisticated feel.
In line with the current trend towards sustainability, the Vision Rapida incorporates eco-friendly materials inspired by streetwear and manga, blending style with environmental consciousness. This unique combination of design elements sets the Vision Rapida apart from its predecessors, reflecting the values and dreams of the young designers at IED who envisioned a sports car that offers both excitement and affordability.
Moreover, the Vision Rapida is designed to accommodate various powertrain options, including internal combustion engines, hybrid systems, and battery-electric technology, providing versatility for different automotive brands. This flexibility allows for a clear identity with no limitations, catering to a wide range of preferences in the automotive market.
Dario Lauriola, Italdesign exterior designer and IED tutor, expressed that the Vision Rapida was born out of a desire to recreate the exhilarating driving experiences offered by small sports cars in the 1990s. The students of IED’s master course in transportation design aimed to fill a void in the current market by creating a vehicle that captures the essence of fun and affordability for young drivers.
Overall, the Vision Rapida concept represents a harmonious blend of retro aesthetics and modern technology, making it a compelling choice for the next generation of automotive enthusiasts. With its innovative design and sustainable features, this sports car embodies the spirit of creativity and forward-thinking design that defines Italdesign and IED’s collaborative vision.
