IM Motors, a Shanghai-based company, has officially obtained its L4 driverless road test license, as announced by Wang Kang, the director of smart driving programs at the company. This achievement marks the completion of IM Motors’ annual target for its L4 product line in 2024.

In December 2023, the electric vehicle (EV) division of SAIC Motor Corp, IM Motors, was granted approval to conduct L3 autonomous vehicle testing in Shanghai. Following this approval, IM Motors announced plans to conduct L3 autonomous driving road tests in designated areas to enhance the development of higher-order smart driving products and cater to the growing demand for advanced smart driving vehicles.

In July 2024, Yu Qiankun, the chief engineer for L4 autonomous driving programs at IM Motors, revealed that the company is collaborating with SAIC’s subsidiary Saike Intelligence to develop a third-generation robotaxi technology solution. This partnership aims to advance Saike’s robotaxi to stage 4.0 by 2025, enabling it to possess L4 smart driving capabilities in major Chinese cities.

IM Motors’ dedication to the development of autonomous driving technology underscores its commitment to innovation and meeting the evolving needs of the automotive industry. With the successful acquisition of its L4 driverless road test license, IM Motors is poised to make significant strides in the field of smart driving and autonomous vehicles.
