IM Motors, a subsidiary of SAIC Motor (SHA: 600104), has recently unveiled the updated LS6, marking a significant development in the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) segment. The new LS6 now offers EREV variants alongside its existing battery electric vehicle (BEV) options, boasting an impressive battery range of up to 450 km.
One of the standout features of the updated LS6 is the introduction of IM Motors’ Hengxing EREV system, making it the first model to incorporate this innovative technology. This move comes at a time when competition in the EREV market is heating up, with manufacturers vying for a larger share of this rapidly growing segment.
The Hengxing EREV system is equipped with CATL’s Freevoy Super Hybrid Battery, which is larger than the batteries typically found in many BEVs. This system is designed to deliver extended range by leveraging the advantages of a larger battery capacity compared to traditional EREVs.
IM Motors officially launched the updated LS6 on September 10, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Within just 27 minutes of its launch, the model had already secured over 10,000 firm orders, underscoring the strong demand for EREVs in the market.
The updated LS6 is a mid-to-large SUV, measuring 4,937 mm in length, 1,988 mm in width, and 1,671 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,960 mm. It offers a range of five BEV variants, including both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive options, with prices starting at RMB 197,900 ($27,790).
The BEV variants of the updated LS6 come with two motor options: one with a maximum power output of 245 kW and another with 300 kW, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in as little as 5.4 seconds. The all-wheel-drive variant features a front motor with 245 kW and a rear motor with 300 kW, delivering impressive performance with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 3.48 seconds.
In terms of battery options, the updated LS6 BEV offers a choice between a 76-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and a 103-kWh ternary lithium battery, providing CLTC ranges of up to 802 km. Meanwhile, the EREV variant features a 1.5L engine as a range extender and offers two battery pack options: a 52-kWh LFP battery and a 66-kWh ternary lithium battery, delivering combined ranges of up to 1,502 km.
Overall, the launch of the updated LS6 represents a significant milestone for IM Motors, as it continues to expand its presence in the rapidly evolving EREV market. With its advanced technology, impressive performance, and competitive pricing, the LS6 is set to make a strong impact in the EREV segment and further solidify IM Motors’ position as a key player in the electric vehicle industry.
