KG Mobility (KGM, formerly SsangYong) has unveiled its ambitious plans to introduce seven new models by 2030, focusing on strengthening its line-up of electrified vehicles for global markets. The announcement was made by KGM’s chairman, Kwak Jae-sun, during the “KGM Forward” conference held at the company’s headquarters in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province.

Kwak Jae-sun emphasized KGM’s commitment to expanding its range of SUVs and MPVs to cater to the increasing global demand for electric vehicles. The company aims to collaborate with global partners to acquire the necessary technologies for producing extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), in addition to its existing portfolio of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, battery electric vehicles (BEVs), and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs.

In a strategic move last year, KGM entered into a partnership with China’s Chery Automobile Company, focusing on platform licensing and technology sharing to enhance its electrified vehicle offerings. The collaboration is expected to bolster KGM’s lineup of electric vehicles and accelerate its transition towards sustainable mobility solutions.

As part of its future product plans, KGM is developing a new medium-to-large SUV range, the SE10, in partnership with Chery, set to enter production next year. This will be followed by the introduction of the KR10, the successor to the current Korando SUV, as well as a range of passenger minibus/MPVs and cargo vans. Additionally, KGM is gearing up to launch the Action Hybrid in the latter half of this year.

Kwak Jung-hyun, the head of KGM’s Business Strategy Division, highlighted the growing demand in the domestic MPV market, particularly for family transportation and leisure activities. He mentioned, “We will launch a new MPV to expand consumer choices in the growing minivan market, providing innovative solutions to meet the evolving needs of consumers.”

The company’s vision for the future involves a comprehensive lineup of electrified vehicles that cater to diverse consumer preferences and market trends. By leveraging strategic partnerships and technological advancements, KGM is poised to make a significant impact in the global automotive industry with its innovative and sustainable mobility solutions.
