Kia EVs Can Now Charge on Tesla Supercharger Network

Kia EV owners can now rejoice as they officially have access to the Tesla Supercharger network in North America. This means that Kia EV6, EV9, and Niro EV owners can now utilize over 21,500 new DC fast chargers, nearly doubling the previous number of accessible chargers for these vehicles.

Kia joins a select group of brands that can charge at Tesla sites in North America, including Ford, Rivian, GM, Volvo, Polestar, Nissan, Lucid, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, and Genesis. This development marks a significant milestone in Kia’s journey towards expanding charging options for its electric vehicles.

The road to achieving Supercharger support for Kia EVs has been a long one, with several delays and setbacks along the way. Initially slated to begin charging on Superchargers in January, the launch was pushed back to spring. Despite some loopholes that allowed Kia owners to charge on Superchargers temporarily, these were quickly closed off by Tesla.

Now, in April, Kia EV owners can finally charge their vehicles on the Tesla Supercharger network without any restrictions. Whether using the official Kia adapter or a third-party adapter, owners can now seamlessly access the extensive charging infrastructure provided by Tesla.

For those who purchased a 2024 or 2025 EV6 or EV9 after September 4, they can receive a free adapter to enable Supercharger access. Others will need to purchase the adapter for $249, which is in line with the average cost of similar adapters in the market.

Additionally, the 2025 Kia EV6 with a native NACS port is set to launch soon, offering a convenient charging solution for Kia EV owners. With pricing announced for these models, shipments are expected to commence shortly, providing a hassle-free charging experience for Kia EV owners.

If you own a Kia EV and have already charged it at a Supercharger, share your experience in the comments section. The ability to charge on the Tesla Supercharger network opens up new possibilities for Kia EV owners, making long-distance travel more convenient and accessible.

In conclusion, Kia’s inclusion in the Tesla Supercharger network is a significant step towards enhancing the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. As the EV market continues to expand, collaborations like these pave the way for a more seamless and efficient charging experience for EV owners.
