Kia has officially launched its first electric van, the PV5, with pre-orders now open. The PV5 is priced at £32,995 ($44,000) in the UK and offers a range of up to 249 miles on a single charge. This new electric van is part of Kia’s Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) business and comes in two trims: Essential and Plus.
Customers can choose between two battery options: a 51.5 kWh battery providing up to 179 miles of range, or a 71.2 kWh battery offering the longer 249-mile range. The long-range battery variant is only available with front-wheel drive (FWD) and features a 120 kW electric motor. The Plus trim exclusively comes with the long-range battery, while the Essential model is available with both battery options.
The PV5 is equipped with 400V fast charging capabilities, allowing it to charge from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes when connected to a 150 kW charger. In terms of size, the PV5 is slightly smaller than the European Volkswagen ID.Buzz model, offering a flat floor design for maximum interior space. With all five seats upright, the PV5 provides 1,320 liters of rear luggage capacity, which expands to 2,315 liters when the second-row seats are folded.
Standard features in every PV5 model include a 12.9″ touchscreen navigation system, Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED headlights, and safety assist features like Highway Driving Assist and Lane Keep Assist. Upgrading to the Plus version adds heated front seats and steering wheel, a powered tailgate, V2L capability, and more.
The PV5 comes in a standard Clear White color, with additional color options available for £750. Pre-orders for the PV5 are set to open in the UK on May 1, 2025, with a global launch planned for later this year. Kia also announced plans to introduce a seven-seat variant of the PV5, as well as larger electric vans like the PV7 in 2027 and the PV9 in 2029.
Overall, the PV5 marks Kia’s entry into the electric van market, offering a blend of range, features, and versatility for customers looking to go electric with their transportation needs.
