Leapmotor (HKG: 9863) is set to make a splash in the electric vehicle (EV) market with its upcoming D-series models, aimed at capturing a higher-priced segment. The company, known for its successful C-series and B-series models, is now gearing up to introduce a full-size SUV as the first model in its new D series.

Recently, two senior executives from Leapmotor confirmed the development of the D-series on Weibo, revealing that the new lineup will kick off with a full-size SUV. According to Weibo automotive blogger @拉面师傅Design, this SUV is poised to be the largest of its kind in the Chinese market, showcasing Leapmotor’s commitment to innovation and advancement.

The upcoming model is expected to offer both extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) options, staying true to Leapmotor’s commitment to providing versatile and sustainable mobility solutions. With a target price of RMB 300,000 ($41,840), the SUV is positioned to cater to a discerning market segment seeking premium features and cutting-edge technologies.

Leapmotor’s Chief Operating Officer, Xu Jun, emphasized the significance of the upcoming D-series model, highlighting it as the company’s flagship full-size SUV. Senior Vice President, Cao Li, further emphasized the advanced nature of the D-series model, positioning it as a leader in technological innovation within the industry.

Contrary to being labeled as “half-price Li Auto,” Leapmotor aims to establish its unique identity in the market, with the SUV already undergoing summer testing and gearing up for an imminent unveiling. The company’s current lineup includes popular models like the T03, B10, B01, C01, C10, C11, and C16, with a mix of BEV and EREV variants catering to diverse customer preferences.

In the first half of the year, the company achieved a total delivery of 221,664 vehicles, further solidifying its position in the competitive EV market.

With the eagerly anticipated D-series set to redefine the premium SUV segment, Leapmotor continues to push boundaries and set new standards in the electric vehicle industry. Stay tuned for more updates as the company gears up to unveil its latest flagship offering to the world.
