LGES aims to double revenues by 2028

LG Energy Solution Ltd (LGES), a South Korean electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturer, has set ambitious targets to double its sales revenues in the next five years. The company aims to achieve a “mid-teen” EBITDA as it capitalizes on the growing global demand for EVs. During its first-ever “Corporate Vision” presentation to investors, LGES outlined its strategies to achieve these goals.

One of the key strategies outlined by LGES is to diversify its business portfolio beyond the EV sector. The company plans to expand its energy storage systems (ESS) business and solidify its market leadership in the Mobility & IT Battery division. By reducing its dependence on the EV sector, LGES aims to build a more balanced business portfolio.

In addition to expanding its non-EV businesses, LGES also plans to diversify its EV product and customer portfolios. The company aims to supply more affordable LFP, LMFP, and high-voltage mid-nickel batteries to cater to lower-cost EV segments. LGES also intends to broaden its cylindrical battery customer portfolio and develop new form factors tailored to customer needs.

Furthermore, LGES is focusing on establishing a significant revenue structure for its software and service businesses. The company recently launched its “B.around” battery management services division, offering services such as battery leasing, rental, and recycling to create a comprehensive Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ecosystem.

Another critical aspect of LGES’s growth strategy is its emphasis on next-generation battery technologies. The company is dedicated to developing solid-state batteries that do not rely on lithium and graphite-based anodes. LGES also aims to accelerate the mass production of ‘bipolar’ semi-solid batteries, low-cost high-power batteries based on sulfur and sodium, and utilize its dry electrode manufacturing process to enhance cost competitiveness, energy density, and production yield.

Overall, LG Energy Solution is positioning itself at the forefront of the global circular energy ecosystem by not only producing batteries but also facilitating energy circulation across the entire cycle. With a clear vision for sustainable growth and a comprehensive set of strategies in place, LGES is poised to achieve its ambitious growth targets by 2028.
