Lucid Motors, known for its luxurious electric vehicles, is making strides in the EV market with its upcoming midsize EV models. The company recently unveiled the first prototypes of its midsize electric SUV, set to launch with a starting price of around $50,000. These prototypes are currently housed in the former headquarters of Nikola, now serving as Lucid’s new Phoenix Hub facility.
The grand opening of the Phoenix hub marks a significant expansion for Lucid, adding over 884,000 square feet to its Arizona footprint. This new facility, acquired from Nikola earlier this year, will be instrumental in advancing Lucid’s research and development efforts as the company prepares to launch its new midsize platform.
According to Lucid’s senior vice president of operations, the new hub will provide capacity for advanced manufacturing activities, product innovations, and component testing. It will complement Lucid’s main manufacturing plant in Casa Grande, where production of the company’s first electric SUV, the Gravity, is underway.
Local media outlets have reported conflicting information about the status of Lucid’s midsize EV models. While some sources suggest that the prototypes are already inside the Phoenix facility, others indicate that the development is still in progress. Regardless, Lucid’s midsize platform is expected to enter production in late 2026, with the first models being a midsize electric SUV and sedan priced under $50,000.
Former CEO Peter Rawlinson has positioned Lucid’s new midsize EVs as direct competitors to Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y. The company aims to capture a significant market share in the midsize electric vehicle segment with its upcoming offerings. Additionally, Lucid plans to introduce a third vehicle based on the midsize platform, although specific details have not been confirmed.
In the meantime, Lucid will focus on ramping up production of the Gravity, with plans to produce 20,000 vehicles this year. The Gravity GT, priced at $94,900 with a range of up to 450 miles, is already available for purchase. Later this year, a more affordable Touring trim will be added to the lineup, priced at $79,900.
As Lucid expands its presence in new overseas markets, including Europe and the Middle East, the company is poised for growth and success in the competitive EV industry. With a strong focus on innovation and quality, Lucid Motors is set to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle market with its impressive lineup of midsize EV models.
